Senior Benefit Consultant

Job Description:

Independently manage the strategic planning, consulting, guidance, marketing, and servicing of employee benefit plans for large sized clients.  Assume lead consultative role of assigned clients in accordance with Thorbahn client management and consulting philosophy.  Effectively work to maximize revenue generating opportunities of the existing book of business.

Department: CLIENT MANAGEMENT

Department Function: HEALTH AND WELFARE CONSULTING SERVICES 

Reports to: VICE PRESIDENT OF CLIENT MANAGEMENT

Supervisory Responsibilities: NOT APPLICABLE

Responsibilities:                             

  • Establish, maintain and nurture client relationships (front line and decision makers)
  • Willingness to train and develop skills in the area of expansion of client services
  • Execute the strategic planning process, marketing/proposal development, contract negotiation, presentation development/quality control, implementation, claims and/or utilization illustration preparation, customer service and daily client management functions
  • Effectively employ a profitable renewal strategy and seek out opportunities to grow revenue on an assigned block of business
  • Act as a resource on any local state, federal compliance issues that impact employee benefits, provide guidance on compliance audit
  • Understand and represent the services provided by Thorbahn, provide expert advise, develop solutions for current and future project plans, execute strategies to consistently illustrate value and retain existing clients
  • Proactively schedule and attend regular meetings with clients to ensure clients needs are continually being met
  • Independently consult and advise with clients on complex benefit programs and benefits issues
  • Provide progress reports as needed to the Vice President of Client Management
  • Exercise positive interaction and cooperation with internal staff and senior management
  • Participate in team assignments and special projects as needed
  • Exhibit a willingness to take on new projects and responsibilities
  • Mentor Associate Consultants, Share knowledge and experience with staff
  • Operate in accordance with established Thorbahn Associates internal protocol and procedures

Financial Analyst

Job Description:

Work directly with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure accurate financial reporting and transactions as well as manage business development implementation processes.  The Financial Analyst has experience coordinating, processing and reporting financial information.  Understands and has proficiency reporting processes including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and other various financial responsibilities.  The Financial Analyst will also be integral to the due diligence and implementation process of new mergers/acquisitions that the firm undertakes.  This position will ensure that all business practices are properly supported from each of the responsibility areas thus allowing all departments to operate at maximum productivity and efficiency.

Department: FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Reports to: CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Transactional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and enter financial data into appropriate software including: invoices, deposits, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Manage accounts payable for vendors, donations and any other area requiring payment for goods or services.
  • Manage and reconciles cash flow and other accounts as required.
  • Invoices clients on a monthly basis for services or retainer work.
  • Track and resolve payment issues with vendors and clients (e.g. insurance, phone bills, leasing, outstanding receivables, etc.)
  • Ensure that deposit activity is entered into commission tracking software monthly.
  • File invoices, deposits and other activities that require financial coordination.
  • Process payroll through appropriate payroll vendor, ensures accuracy and timeliness, and resolves discrepancies and issues as appropriate.
  • Process the administration of the 401k retirement plan through the firm provider, ensure accuracy and resolve issues.
  • Process commissions for salespeople both internal and external.

Financial Reporting & Analysis Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the closing of the financial books on a monthly basis.
  • Generate monthly reports monitoring revenue by business division.
  • Generate monthly reports monitoring new business revenue vs. budget.
  • Coordinate and monitor the annual budget process ensuring a highly collaborative process is achieved by all practices to better ensure an accurate budget is achieved, implemented, monitored and reported upon.
  • Monitor actual vs. budget activity and communicate budget concerns to president accordingly.
  • Generate ad hoc reporting as requested by the President & Chief Financial Officer.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Use initiative, tact, independent judgment, and confidentiality with all tasks.  Undertake assignments that are critical to the internal operations.
  • Provide rapid and proactive response to time sensitive requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a small business environment.
  • Strong accounting skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple time critical tasks concurrently.
  • Proactive self-starter who requires little supervision.
  • Ability to solve issues through multiple sources and departments as necessary.
  • Initiative to take on tasks and achieve desired results.
  • Organized, detail oriented, excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Quickbooks, Excel, Word, Access, Outlook).
